Our Classification Guidelines

These Classification Guidelines are to enable a standard to be maintained in all areas. Assessment is according to the Australian National Saddlehorse Association Standards of Excellence.

Type & Conformation

Minimum Standards

  • Height: Stallions, mares and geldings must be over 14.2hh

  • Age: Minimum 2 years old from foaling date (unless foal recorded)

Additional Criteria:

  • Each horse must be free from hereditary defects

  • Soundness is paramount

  • Strong functional conformation should be evident reflecting good breeding

  • They must have a well-proportioned body to produce a comfortable and pleasurable ride

  • MUST HAVE MANNERS BOTH IN HAND AND UNDER SADDLE

Inspection

Horses must have identification brands and/or microchip number (refer to Section 13 of the regulations).

  • A simple performance of the basic paces under saddle is required – brood mares excepted where necessary.

  • The ideal horse is a well conformed saddle horse type, demonstrating good temperament and ability. Versatility under saddle is valued and encouraged.

  • All stallions must be inspected by 3 classifiers eg. in person or video.

Steps to register a horse

  1. Download and fill out the Horse Registration and Identification form with a listed Classifier

  2. Pay your registration fee via bank deposit to ANSA’s bank account

  3. Send back the signed form along with a copy of your EFT payment receipt to ansaddlehorse@outlook.com
